The lowdown on wireless remote outdoor video surveillance

Is your apartment or home to be unoccupied for more than a day or two while you holiday? That is when your apartment is open to break ins. Here is a bunch of things to do about it.

* The most effective solution is to get someone staying at home. Having someone in is usually safer than a house that is empty. Try getting a friend or relative to live at your house for the time you are away.

* Stop the mail delivery and newspaper delivery when you leave the home unoccupied. A full mailbox or newspaper piled up calls attention to the fact that no one is home.

* If you have potted plants passersby can see get someone to maintain them. Or Else ensure the potted plants are not visible from outside. Untended and wilted plants tell the observer that the home is untenanted.

* Timers on lights and tv will help. Timers should be hooked to lights in multiple rooms. The timings for lights should look natural. The living room lights should come on at sundown. At your regular bedtime the lights in the living room should turn off and the lights in your bedroom should turn on.

If you generally turn tv on at 8 pm most days and it remains on till 11 pm the timer should stick to those times too. The living room light may be on but the absence of the tv glow may indicate to outsiders that no one is actually home.

* Request a neighbor to drop in on your apartment now and then. Doors being opened and closed and windows too gives evidence that the apartment or home is occupied.

* If you rent a home it is usually a good idea to tell the owner that the apartment or home will be empty. The houseowner may want to watch over the house.

* If you have installed an alarm of protection system make it a point to see that the the person who is doing the house sitting knows how to handle it.

* See that the neighbor or house sitter can contact you. Whoever is checking on the home should be aware of who they should notify should a problem arise.
