If you usually turn the tv on at 8 pm and it is always on till you go to bed set your timer to that schedule. Though the lights may be on the absence of the tv's light shining through may lead someone to suspect that the home is empty.
* See if a neighbor will drop in to your home frequently. Doors and windows being opened denote that the apartment or home is occupied.
* If you rent a home or apartment perhaps you can let the owner or landlord know that you are going on vacation. The owner may want to check on it.
* If you have a security system installed make certain that the person who is house sitting recognizes how to work it.
* Make it a point to see that you leave your contact details with the house sitter. The person checking up on the apartment should know who they should fill in should a problem crop up.
