Facts on voice annunciated residential security systemsIs your apartment or home to be empty for a longish time while you and your family vacation out of town? That is when it usually is susceptible to break ins. Here is what you can do to make your home less vulnerable. * The most effective solution is to have someone stay at your apartment. Having someone at home is always safer than a deserted home. Try getting a friend or someone you trust to stay at home at least during the nights while you are away. * Stop the newspaper and mail delivery while you are away from home. Unread newspapers and an overflowing mailbox tells everyone that the home is unoccupied. * If you keep a garden ask someone to maintain them. Alternatively move the potted plants out of sight. Wilted and dying plants are a sign that no one is home. * Use timers for radio, tv and lights. Timers should be hooked to lights in multiple rooms. Use a natural looking sequence for lights. The living room lights should come on at sundown. At the time you turn in put out the lights in your living room and turn on the bedroom lights. If you ordinarily switch on tv at 8 pm everyday and have it on till bedtime have your timer do the same. Even with lights switched on the tv being turned off may reveal that the home is unoccupied. * Get a neighbor to drop in and check on your apartment now and then. Windows being opened and closed etc indicate that the house is inhabited. * If you rent the apartment or house you may want to let your landlord know that the home will be unoccupied. The landlord may want to watch over the house. * If you have installed a security system make certain that the housesitter is aware of precisely how to use it. * Ensure that the house sitter knows how to contact you. The person responsbile for checking into the house must know who they should notify should a problem arise.
