* Use timers for radio, tv and lights. Use timers to control lights in many rooms. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. Living room lights should come on at sundown. Afterwards the living room should have lights off and the lights in the bedroom should turn on.
If you normally turn on the tv at 7 pm and have it on all evening till bedtime have your timer do the same. The lights in the house may be on but the absence of the bluish tv glow might indicate that this is an empty house.
* Request a neighbor to visit your place often. Curtains and windows being opened mean that the apartment or home is occupied.
* If you rent the apartment or house let the landlord know that you will be away. Your homeowner may want to keep tabs on the apartment.
* If you have an alarm or protection system installed make certain that the housesitter knows how it is to be operated.
* Make sure you leave your contact details with the neighbor. Whoever is checking on the home should know who should be informed should a problem arise.
