What you must know about video surveillance documentation
Is your apartment to be unoccupied for a few days while you go out of station? That is when the home usually is most vulnerable to housebreaks. Here are several things to do to deter thieves.
* The most effective defense is to have a sitter at home. Having someone at home is commonly safer than an apartment that is not occupied. Arrange for a relative or friend to stay at home at least during the nights while you are go away.
* Halt the newspaper delivery and mail delivery while you are away from home. Unread newspapers and an overflowing mailbox is a sure sign that your home is empty.
* If you have potted plants passersby can see arrange for them to be watered and kept well. Or Else ensure the potted plants are not visible from outside. Uncared for plants imply that the house is uninhabited.
* Use timers on the lights, radio and tv. Put lights in several rooms on timers. The lights should turn on an off in a natural manner. At sundown the living room lights should switch on. At bedtime the living room should have lights off and the lights in the bedroom should be switched on.
If you usually turn the tv on at 8 pm and keep in on till 11 pm set your timer to that schedule. Though the lights may be on the absence of the tv's bluish glow may lead to suspiscion that this house is unoccupied.
* Get a neighbor to drop in and check on your apartment or home often. Windows being opened and closed etc are signs that the home is inhabited.
* If you rent the apartment or house you might let the landlord know that the apartment or home will be empty. The homeowner may want to watch over the house.
* If you have an alarm installed make it a point to see that the house sitter knows how to operate it.
* Make certain that the neighbor knows how to contact you. Whoever is keeping tabs on the apartment must know exactly who to call if there is a problem.
