* Use timers to work tv and lights. Lights should be on timers in multiple rooms. Set the timers to make the light sequence look natural. The timer should turn living room lights on at sundown. Later the living room lights should go off and the lights in the bedroom should turn on.
If you generally turn tv on at 8 pm most days and have it on till midnight or so the timer should do the same thing. Even if the lights are on the absence of the bluish tv glow can give a clue that the home is empty.
* Find out if a neighbor will agree to drop in to your apartment on a regular basis. Doors and windows being opened denote that the house is inhabited.
* If you stay at a rented home perhaps you can tell your landlord that you are going away for a few days. Your houseowner may want to watch over it now and then.
* If you have an alarm system active see that the the person who is doing the house sitting recognises how to handle it.
* Ensure that the house sitter can reach you easily. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home should be aware of who they should call should any issues come up.
