* See if a neighbor can come in to your apartment now and then. Doors being opened and closed and windows too are indications that the apartment or home is occupied.
* If you rent the home notify the owner that you are going away for a few days. The homeowner may want to keep tabs on the apartment.
* If you use any kind of security system see to it that the person who is house sitting recognises just how to use it.
* Ensure that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. The person checking up on the apartment must be aware of who they should fill in if there is a problem.
