* Get a neighbor to drop in and check on your home now and then. Windows being opened and closed etc signals that the home is inhabited.
* If you rent a home you may want to let your landlord know that you are traveling. The homeowner may want to check up on the home sometimes.
* If you have a home security system installed make certain that the homesitter is aware of exactly how to use it.
* Ensure that the neighbor knows how to contact you. Whoever is checking on the home should be informed about who they should contact if any issue should come up.
