* Stop the newspaper and mail while you are away from home. A full mailbox or newspaper piled up tells everyone that the home is deserted.

* If you rent an apartment notify the landlord that you are traveling. Your landlord may want to keep tabs on the apartment.
* If you have installed an alarm of protection system make sure the homesitter is comfortable with just how to use it.
* See that the neighbor or house sitter can contact you. Whoever is checking on the home should be aware of who they should fill in should any issue crop up.
