Home: Self Made Alarm System
Understanding self made alarm systemIs your house to be left unoccupied for sometime while you go out of station? That is when your home is vulnerable to burglars breaking in. Here is what to do to deter thieves. * The optimal defense for your apartment or home is to have a house sitter. Having someone at home is normally safer than a deserted home. See if you can get a friend or relative to stay at your apartment for the time you are traveling. * Temporarily stop mail and newspaper delivery when you go away. A full mailbox or newspaper piled up is a sign that the home is unoccupied. * If you keep a garden or have potted plants that are visible ensure that someone waters them. Otherwise shift the potted plants where they are not visible from the road. Wilted plants convey that no one is home. * Use timers for radio, tv and lights. Lights should be on timers in multiple rooms. The way the lights are switched on and off should look natural. At dusk turn on the living room lights. When you normally go to bed the lights in the living room should turn off and the lights in your bedroom should turn on. If you ordinarily switch on tv at 8 pm everyday and it remains on till midnight the timer should do the same thing. Though the lights may be switched on the absence of the tv's bluish glow might be enough evidence that your house is empty. * See if a neighbor will come in to your home regularly while you are away. Doors being opened and closed and windows too indicate that the house is not empty. * If you rent the home you may want to let your landlord know that you are going away for a few days. Your houseowner may want to check on the home regularly. * If you have an active alarm system ensure that the house sitter is comfortable with how it is to be run. * See to it that you leave your contact details with the neighbor. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home must know who they should call if any issue should come up.
