The scoop about security cameras shots

Is your house to be left empty for a longish time while you and your family travel? That is when your apartment is most vulnerable to looters breaking in. Here is a bunch of things to help make your home safer.

* The best deterrant is to have a sitter at home. Having someone in is usually safer than an empty apartment. See if you can get a trustworthy friend to hang out at your home when you are traveling.

* Halt the mail and newspaper when you go on vacation. An overflowing mailbox advertises that your house is unoccupied.

* If you maintain potted plants that are visible from the road ask someone to maintain them. Or keep the potted plants of of sight. Untended and dying plants are a signal that the home is empty.

* Use timers for radio, tv and lights. Several rooms should have timers on lighting. Set the timings of the lights so it looks as if someone is home. At sundown the living room lights should switch on. At your regular bedtime the living room lights should go off and the lights in the bedroom should turn on.

If you normally turn on the tv at 7 pm and it stays on till bed time set the timer accordingly. The lights may be on but the absence of the bluish tv glow can be a sign that the house is empty.

* See if a neighbor can visit your home regularly while you are away. Windows and curtains being opened and closed signals that the home is occupied.

* If you rent the apartment or house tell the landlord that you will be out of station. The homeowner may want to check up on the home sometimes.

* If you use an alarm system ensure that the housesitter is aware of how to handle it.

* Make certain that the house sitter knows how to contact you. The person keeping an eye on the house must be well aware of who they should contact should there be a problem.
