Learn about saskatoon home security

Is your apartment to be unoccupied for a few days while you go out of town? That is the time it is susceptible to being burglarized. Here is a bunch of things to do to defend your home.

* The optimal defense for your apartment or home is to have a sitter at home. Having someone stay at home is usually safer than an unoccupied home. Try arranging for a trusted friend or relative to hang out at your home while you are go away.

* Stop your newspaper and mail delivery when you go on vacation. Untouched mail and newspaper advertises that no one is home.

* If you have potted plants passersby can see get someone to maintain them. Or move the potted plants where they cant be seen. Plants wilting from lack of water suggest that the home is empty.

* Put lights and tv on timers. Use timers to control lights in many rooms. The way the lights are switched on and off should look natural. The timer should turn living room lights on at sundown. When you normally hit the sack the living room lights should be turned off and the lightsin the bedroom should switch on.

If you usually switch tv on at 8 and have it on all evening till bedtime the timer must follow those timings. The living room light may be on but the tv being turned off might give away that the house is empty.

* See if a neighbor can come in and check out your home frequently. Windows and curtains being opened and closed mean that the house is inhabited.

* If you live in a rented apartment maybe you can tell the landlord that the home will be unoccupied. The owner may want to check on it.

* If you use a security system make certain that the house sitter is comfortable with how it is to be used.

* See to it that the house sitter or caretaker can reach you. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home should be informed about who to call should any issues come up.
