* Get a neighbor to drop in and check on your apartment on a regular basis. Windows and curtains being opened are all signs that the home is occupied.
* If you stay in a rented house let the owner know that you will be away. The landlord may want to check up on the home sometimes.
* If you have installed an alarm system make it a point to see that the homesitter recognises precisely how to work it.
* Make sure the neighbor can reach you easily. Whoever is watching over the home must be well aware of exactly who to call should any issue crop up.
