If you normally turn on the tv at 7 pm and it remains on till midnight the timer should do the same thing. The lights may be on but the absence of light from the tv can be a sign that no one is actually home.
* Find out if a neighbor will agree to come in and check out your home regularly while you are away. Windows and curtains being opened and closed are signs that somebody is home.
* If you rent the home perhaps you can let the owner or landlord know that the apartment or home will be empty. Your houseowner may want to check on the home now and then.
* If you have installed a burglar alarm see to it that the house sitter recognises precisely how to use it.
* See that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. The person responsbile for checking into the house should know who they should intimate should there be a problem.
