Home: Replacing Existing Home Security System
What you must know about replacing existing home security systemIs your home going to be empty for several days while you go on vacation? That is the time it is most vulnerable to burglaries. Here are several specific things you can do to deal with it. * The best deterrant is to have a keeper or sitter at home. A house where someone is staying is almost always safer than an empty house. Try getting a trusted friend or relative to live at your apartment when you are traveling. * Halt your mail delivery and newspaper delivery for the entire time you are away. Unread newspapers and an overflowing mailbox tells everyone that the house is unoccupied. * If you have potted plants passersby can see arrange for them to be kept well. Or Else shift the potted plants where they are not visible from the road. Plants wilting from lack of water convey that the home is untenanted. * Use timers to work tv and lights. Timers should run lights in several rooms. The way the lights are switched on and off should look natural. At sunset turn on the living room lights. When it is time for bed the living room lights should be turned off and the lightsin the bedroom should switch on. If you generally turn tv on at 8 pm most days and have it on till bedtime have the timer set accordingly. Though the lights may be switched on the absence of the tv's light shining through may reveal that no one is actually home. * Ask a neighbor to come in to your apartment on a regular basis. Windows being opened and closed etc are all signs that the house is occupied. * If you live in a rented home it is usually a good idea to tell the owner that you are going on vacation. Your homeowner may want to keep tabs on the home. * If you use a perimeter protection or other security system make sure the homesitter recognizes how to operate it. * Ensure that you leave your contact details with the house sitter. Whoever is watching over the home should be informed about who they should call should a problem crop up.
