Info on landlord video surveillance

Is your apartment or home to be unoccupied for days or weeks while you go out of station? That is the time it is most susceptible to housebreaks. Here are several specific things to do to defend your home.

* The best deterrant is to have a house sitter. An apartment where someone is staying is usually safer than an empty apartment. Check if you can get a friend to stay at home when you are traveling.

* Temporarily discontinue newspaper and mail delivery while you are away from home. Piles of newspaper lying around informs potential thieves that the house is unoccupied.

* If you have a garden or potted plants ask someone to maintain them. Or shift the potted plants where they are not visible from the road. Plants not being taken care of tell potential burglars that the home is empty.

* It is a good idea to use timers on lights and tv. Lights in several rooms should be on timers. The lights should turn on an off in a natural manner. At sunset turn on the living room lights. When you go to bed living room should turn dark and the lights in the bedroom should turn on.

If you on the tv set at 7 pm most days and keep it on till 10 have the timer set accordingly. The lights in the house may be on but the lack of the tv's bluish glow can give a clue that this is an empty house.

* Request a neighbor to come in to your home regularly while you are away. Doors being opened and closed and windows too are signs that the house is inhabited.

* If you live in a rented apartment let the landlord know that you are traveling. Your landlord may want to check on the home regularly.

* If you have a burglar alarm installed ensure that the the person who is doing the house sitting knows precisely how to use it.

* Make it a point to see that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. The person watching over the house should be informed about who they should fill in should any issues come up.
