If you turn tv on at 7 most days and it is always on till you go to bed set your timer to that schedule. Even with lights switched on the lack of the tv's bluish glow can clue in someone that the home is unoccupied.
* Arrange for a neighbor to visit your apartment on a regular basis. Windows and curtains being opened and closed denote that the home is inhabited.
* If you stay in a rented apartment notify the owner that you are going on vacation. The landlord may want to keep tabs on the apartment.
* If you have installed an alarm system make certain that the homesitter recognises how to make it run.
* See that the house sitter or caretaker can reach you. The person checking on the house must know who they should contact should any problems come up.
