Facts on intrusion detectionm

Is your house to be left unoccupied for several days while you and your family travel? That is when it is most susceptible to being burglarized. Here is what you can do about it.

* The better alternative is to have a sitter at home. Having someone stay at home is almost always safer than a deserted home. Try to arrange for a trustworthy friend to hang out at your home while you are go away.

* Stop your mail and newspaper delivery while you are away from home. An overflowing mailbox tells unlawful elements that the house is unoccupied.

* If you have potted plants visible from outside ensure that someone waters them. Alternatively ensure that the potted plants are kept out of sight. Untended and dying plants suggest that no one is home now.

* Put lights, tv and radio on timers. Put lights in several rooms on timers. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. At dusk turn on the living room lights. At your regular bedtime living room should turn dark and the bedroom lights should switch on.

If you generally switch on tv at 7 pm and it remains on till 11 pm have your timer do the same. Even if the lights are on the tv being off can indicate that this is an empty house.

* Request a neighbor to come in and check out your apartment now and then. Doors being opened and closed and windows too signals that the house is occupied.

* If you rent an apartment notify the owner that the house will be empty. Your houseowner may want to keep tabs on the apartment.

* If you have installed an alarm of protection system make sure the apartment sitter recognizes how to handle it.

* Make certain that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home must be aware of who to call if any issue should come up.
