If you generally turn tv on at 8 pm most days and it stays on till bed time have the timer set accordingly. Though the lights may be switched on the absence of the bluish tv glow can be a sign that no one is home.
* Request a neighbor to drop in on your apartment now and then. Windows and curtains being opened and closed mean that somebody is home.
* If you stay in a rented apartment perhaps you can let the owner or landlord know that you are traveling. The houseowner may want to check up on it regularly.
* If you have installed a security system see to it that the person who is house sitting is comfortable with how to use it.
* Make it a point to see that the house sitter knows how to contact you. Whoever is checking on the home must know who is to be informed should there be a problem.
