* The best security for your apartment is to have a house sitter. Having someone in is commonly safer than an uninhabited apartment. Try to get a friend or someone you trust to hang out at your apartment while you go on vacation.

* If you rent the home let the owner know that you are traveling. The houseowner may want to check on the apartment or home regularly.
* If you use any kind of security system make it a point to see that the homesitter is comfortable with how to run it.
* Ensure that you leave your contact details with the neighbor. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home must be well aware of who they should call should any issues come up.
