Knowledge and facts about hvac remote alarm systems

Is your house to be left unoccupied for even a few days while you leave town? That is when your home is most vulnerable to burglaries and housebreaks. Here are several things you can do.

* The best deterrant is to get someone staying at home. Having someone stay at your home is normally safer than an empty house. Try to arrange for a friend or someone you trust to stay at your apartment for the time you are traveling.

* Halt your newspaper and mail delivery when you travel out of town. Unread newspaper and mail tells everyone that the home is unoccupied.

* If you have potted plants that are visible get someone to maintain them. Or ensure the potted plants are not visible from outside. Plants dying slowly are another sign that the home is empty.

* Use timers for radio, tv and lights. Timers should be hooked to lights in multiple rooms. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. For example turn on the living room lights at sunset. At the time you turn in put out the lights in your living room and the bedroom lights should switch on.

If you turn on tv at 7 pm every day and you keep it on till you turn in the timer should do the same thing. The lights may be on but the tv being off might give away that no one is home.

* See if a neighbor can drop in on your home now and then. Windows being open now and then convey that the house is occupied.

* If you stay in a rented apartment you may want to notify your landlord that the house will be unoccupied. The houseowner may want to check on the home regularly.

* If you use a perimeter protection or other security system make it a point to see that the house sitter knows how it is to be run.

* See that you leave your contact details with the neighbor. Whoever is watching over the home must be aware of who should be informed should any issues come up.
