Understanding home security window contacts

Is your apartment or home to be empty for a few days while you travel on vacation? That is the time it is open to looters. Here are several specific things to stop break ins.

* The best solution is to have a sitter at home. An apartment where someone is staying is commonly safer than a deserted home. Try to get a friend or someone you trust to stay at home while you are away.

* Temporarily stop newspaper delivery and mail delivery when you go on vacation. An overflowing mailbox informs potential thieves that the home is empty.

* If you maintain potted plants that are visible from the road have them kept by someone regularly. Alternatively shift the potted plants where no one can see them. Untended and dying plants tell the observer that the apartment is unoccupied.

* It is a good idea to use timers on lights and tv. Use timers on lights in several rooms. The lights should be switched on and off in a natural sequence. The lights in the living room should switch on at sunset. When you normally retire the living room lights should go off and the lights in the bedroom should turn on.

If you commonly switch on tv at 9 and it stays switched on till its time for you to turn in the timer should stick to those times too. Even with lights switched on the lack of the tv's bluish glow might be sufficient evidence that this house is unoccupied.

* Arrange for a neighbor to drop in on your apartment on a regular basis. Windows and curtains being worked is evidence that the apartment or home is occupied.

* If you rent the home you might let the landlord know that the home will be unoccupied. Your homeowner may want to watch over it now and then.

* If you have an alarm system installed see to it that the housesitter is familiar with how it is to be worked.

* Make sure the house sitter knows how to contact you. The person checking up on the apartment should be aware of who they should intimate should a problem crop up.
