* Use timers to operate lights and tv. Timers should run lights in several rooms. The lights should turn on an off in a natural manner. The lights in the living room should switch on at sunset. At the time you turn in set the timer to switch off living room lights and the bedroom lights should be turned on.
If you turn tv on at 7 most days and you keep it on till you turn in the timer must follow those timings. The lights may be on but the lack of the tv's bluish glow might indicate that this house is unoccupied.
* Get a neighbor to drop in and check on your apartment now and then. Windows being opened and closed etc are signs that the home is inhabited.
* If you live in a rented home it may be a good idea to notify the owner that you are traveling. Your landlord may want to keep tabs on the apartment.
* If you use a security system make it a point to see that the homesitter recognizes just how to use it.
* Make sure you leave your contact details with the house sitter. The person checking on the house must know who they should contact should any problems come up.
