The timer should switch on the living room lights at dusk. Subsequently at bedtime living room should turn dark and the lightsin the bedroom should switch on. If you generally switch on tv at 7 pm and it remains on till midnight have your timer do the same. The lights may be on but the lack of light from the tv can give away that the home is unoccupied. * See if a neighbor can drop in to your house frequently. Windows being opened and curtains being worked are all signs that the house is occupied. * If you rent a home or apartment you might let the landlord know that you are going on vacation. The homeowner may want to check on the home now and then. * If you use any kind of security system make certain that the house sitter is familiar with precisely how to work it. * See that you leave your contact details with the house sitter. The person keeping an eye on the house should know who to call if any issue should come up.
