Details about home land security magazineIs your apartment or home to be empty for several days while you go out of town? That is when the home usually is most vulnerable to burglaries and housebreaks. Here are several things you can do. * The best way to defend your apartment is to get someone staying at home. An apartment where someone is staying is very likely safer than an uninhabited home. Arrange for a friend or someone you trust to stay at home while you travel. * Stop your mail delivery and newspaper delivery when you go away. Untouched mail and newspaper is a sign that no one is home. * If you potted plants visibly placed ensure that someone waters them. Or Else ensure that the potted plants are kept out of sight. Untended plants inform housebreakers that nobody is home. * Put the lights and tv on timers. Use timers to control lights in many rooms. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. At sundown the living room lights should switch on. Subsequently at bedtime the lights in the living room should turn off and the lightsin the bedroom should switch on. If you commonly switch on tv at 9 and you watch it till 11 pm set your timer to that schedule. The lights may be on but the absence of the tv's light shining through might give away that the apartment or home is empty. * Arrange for a neighbor to drop in on your house regularly. Windows being open now and then denote that the house is inhabited. * If you rent an apartment tell the owner that the apartment or home will be empty. Your houseowner may want to check on the home now and then. * If you have an active alarm system make it a point to see that the housesitter recognises how to handle it. * Make certain that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home must be well aware of who to call should any issues come up.
