Knowledgebase on hamilton ontario video surveillanceIs your house to be left empty for a few days or weeks while you holiday? That is the time your apartment or home is most vulnerable to looters breaking in. Here is what you might want to do. * The best way to defend your apartment is to get a home sitter. Having someone at home is always safer than an unoccupied apartment. Try to get a relative or friend to hang out at your apartment when you are traveling. * Discontinue your mail delivery and newspaper delivery while you are away from home. Piles of newspaper lying around tells unlawful elements that no one is home. * If you have potted plants or a garden have them maintained by someone. Or Else shift the potted plants where they are not visible from the road. Plants not being cared for tell the observer that the apartment is empty. * Put lights, tv and radio on timers. Put lights in several rooms on timers. The lights should be switched on and off in a natural sequence. The living room lights should come on at sundown. When you normally hit the sack the living room lights should be turned off and the lights in your bedroom should turn on. If you on the tv set at 7 pm most days and have it on till midnight or so have the timer set accordingly. Even if the lights are on the absence of the tv's light shining through may lead someone to suspect that this house is unoccupied. * Arrange for a neighbor to drop in on your place often. Windows and curtains being opened and closed denote that the house is inhabited. * If you live in a rented apartment tell the owner that the apartment or home will be empty. Your homeowner may want to watch over it now and then. * If you have an alarm system installed see that the the person who is doing the house sitting recognises precisely how to work it. * Make sure the house sitter knows how to contact you. The person checking on the house must be aware of who they should contact should any issues come up.
