* See if a neighbor can drop in and check on your apartment on a regular basis. Windows being opened and curtains being worked mean that the house is occupied.
* If you stay in a rented house you might notify the owner that you are going out of town. The owner may want to check up on it regularly.
* If you have installed a security system see to it that the home sitter is comfortable with how to make it run.
* Make certain that you leave your contact details with the house sitter. The person keeping an eye on the house must be well aware of who should be informed should there be a problem.
