If you ordinarily switch on tv at 8 pm everyday and you watch it till 11 pm have your timer do the same. Even if the lights are on the tv being off can give away that no one is home.
* See if a neighbor will drop into your apartment now and then. Windows being open now and then signals that the house is not empty.
* If you rent the apartment or house it may be useful to tell the landlord that you will be away. The houseowner may want to check on it.
* If you have a security system installed ensure that the house sitter recognises precisely how to use it.
* Make sure you leave your contact details with the house sitter. The person responsbile for checking into the house must know who they should fill in should any issues come up.
