Use a natural looking sequence for lights. The timer should turn living room lights on at sundown. When you go to bed the living room lights should be turned off and the bedroom lights should switch on. If you on the tv set at 7 pm most days and you keep it on till you turn in set your timer to that schedule. Even with lights switched on the lack of light from the tv may lead to suspiscion that no one is home. * Arrange for a neighbor to drop into your home frequently. Windows being opened and closed etc are indications that the house is occupied. * If you rent the apartment or house you may want to let your landlord know that you are going away for a few days. Your landlord may want to check up on it regularly. * If you have an active alarm system see to it that the house sitter recognises precisely how to operate it. * Make it a point to see that the neighbor or house sitter can contact you. The person checking up on the apartment should be aware of who they should notify should any problems come up.
