Understanding companies using video surveillance

Is your apartment to be left empty for even a few days while you vacation out of town? That is when it is most susceptible to burglars breaking and entering it. Here are several things to minimize chances of housebreaks.

* The best deterrant is to get a home sitter. A house where someone is staying is very likely safer than an apartment that is not occupied. Check if you can get a trustworthy friend to stay at your house while you go on vacation.

* Stop the mail delivery and newspaper delivery while you are on vacation. An overflowing mailbox advertises that your house is unoccupied.

* If you potted plants visibly placed have them maintained by someone. Or Else remove the potted plants away from sight. Dying plants are an indication that the apartment is empty.

* Put the lights and tv on timers. Timers should be hooked to lights in multiple rooms. The timings for lights should look natural. At dusk turn on the living room lights. Subsequently set the timer to switch off living room lights and the lights in the bedroom should be switched on.

If you usually switch tv on at 8 and have it on till bedtime the timer should do the same thing. Though the lights may be switched on the absence of the tv might be enough evidence that the home is unoccupied.

* See if a neighbor can visit your house regularly. Curtains and windows being opened denote that the apartment or home is occupied.

* If you live in a rented home let the landlord know that the home will be unoccupied. The landlord may want to check up on it regularly.

* If you use a burglar alarm system make certain that the house sitter knows how to handle it.

* See that the house sitter or caretaker can reach you. The person checking up on the apartment should be informed about who to call should a problem crop up.
