If you ordinarily switch on tv at 8 pm everyday and it stays on till bed time set your timer to that schedule. The lights may be on but the absence of light from the tv may indicate to outsiders that this is an empty house.
* Get a neighbor to come in to your apartment now and then. Doors and windows being worked gives evidence that the house is not empty.
* If you rent the apartment or house tell the owner that you are going on vacation. The homeowner may want to check on it.
* If you use a perimeter protection or other security system make certain that the apartment sitter is familiar with how to make it run.
* Make it a point to see that the neighbor can reach you easily. The person keeping an eye on the house should be informed about who they should call should any problems come up.
