* Get a neighbor to visit your apartment now and then. Doors and windows being opened gives evidence that the home is inhabited.
* If you rent the apartment or house perhaps you can let the owner or landlord know that you will be out of station. The owner may want to check on the apartment or home regularly.
* If you have installed a home security system make certain that the home sitter is familiar with how to use it.
* Ensure that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. Whoever is watching over the home must know who should be informed if any issue should come up.
