Inside story on caledonian security solutionsIs your house to be left unoccupied for many days while you take a much needed break away from town? That is when the home usually is most vulnerable to burglars breaking in. Here is what to help harden your home against burglaries. * The best way out is to have someone stay at your apartment. Having someone stay at home is almost always safer than a house that is empty. Try getting a friend to stay at your apartment when you are away. * Stop the mail delivery and newspaper delivery when you leave the home unoccupied. Piles of newspaper lying around advertises that the house is empty. * If you potted plants visibly placed have them kept by someone regularly. Or Else ensure that the potted plants are kept out of sight. Plants not being cared for tell the observer that the apartment is unoccupied. * Use timers to operate lights and tv. Lights should be on timers in multiple rooms. The way the lights are switched on and off should look natural. Living room lights should come on at sundown. Later the living room lights should be put out and turn on the bedroom lights. If you normally turn on the tv at 7 pm and keep in on till 11 pm set your timer to that schedule. The lights may be on but the absence of the tv's bluish glow might be enough evidence that the apartment or home is empty. * Arrange for a neighbor to drop in and check on your home regularly while you are away. Curtains and windows being opened mean that the house is not empty. * If you stay in a rented house perhaps you can let the owner or landlord know that the home will be unoccupied. Your houseowner may want to watch over the house. * If you use a home security system see to it that the the person who is doing the house sitting is aware of how it is to be operated. * Make it a point to see that the house sitter can reach you easily. The person checking on the house must know who to call if there is a problem.
