Home: Burgar Alarm System
The lowdown on burgar alarm systemIs your house going to be unoccupied for sometime while you travel? That is the time your home is open to burglars breaking and entering it. Here are several specific things to do to deter thieves. * The best deterrant is to get someone staying at home. Having someone stay at your home is almost always safer than an empty apartment. Try arranging for a relative to stay at your apartment when you are away. * Discontinue your newspaper and mail for the entire time you are away. Unread newspapers and an overflowing mailbox tells unlawful elements that your house is unoccupied. * If you maintain potted plants that are visible from the road have them kept by someone regularly. Or move the potted plants away from sight. Plants not being taken care of give away that the house is uninhabited. * Put lights, tv and radio on timers. Timers should run lights in several rooms. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. Turn on the living room lights at sunset. When you normally hit the sack put out the lights in your living room and the bedroom lights should be turned on. If you ordinarily switch on tv at 8 pm everyday and it stays on till bed time the timer must follow those timings. Even with lights switched on the lack of the tv's bluish glow may reveal that the house is empty. * Ask a neighbor to come in to your home frequently. Windows and curtains being opened and closed are signs that the home is inhabited. * If you live in a rented home you may want to let your landlord know that you are going out of town. The landlord may want to keep tabs on the home. * If you have installed an alarm system ensure that the house sitter recognizes how to operate it. * Make it a point to see that the caretaker or house sitter can contact you. The person responsbile for checking into the house should know who is to be informed should there be a problem.
