Understanding books on tripwire intrusion detection
Is your apartment to be unoccupied for a longish time while you go out of town? That is when the home usually is vulnerable to thieves breaking in. Here are several specific things you should consider doing.
* The most effective solution is to have a someone occupying the house. A house where someone is staying is commonly safer than an unoccupied apartment. Try to arrange for a friend to stay at home at least during the nights while you are go away.
* Discontinue your newspaper delivery and mail delivery while you are away. A mailbox that is full or newspapers lying around advertises that the house is empty.
* If you keep a garden arrange for them to be watered and kept well. Otherwise ensure the potted plants are not visible from outside. Wilted and dying plants tell the observer that the home or apartment is unoccupied.
* Timers on lights and tv will help. Lights in multiple rooms should be on timers. Use a natural looking sequence for the lights. The lights in the living room should switch on at sunset. At your regular sleeptime the lights in the living room should turn off and the lightsin the bedroom should switch on.
If you turn on tv at 7 pm every day and keep in on till 11 pm have your timer do the same. The lights may be on but the absence of the bluish tv glow can give a clue that your house is empty.
* See if a neighbor will visit your house frequently. Curtains and windows being opened is evidence that the house is not empty.
* If you live on rent you might let the landlord know that you will be out of station. The landlord may want to check up on it regularly.
* If you have installed a home security system make sure the person who is house sitting is comfortable with exactly how to run it.
* See that the neighbor or house sitter can contact you. The person checking up on the apartment should be informed about who they should intimate should a problem crop up.
