If you generally turn tv on at 8 pm most days and keep it on till 10 the timer must follow those timings. The living room light may be on but the tv being turned off may lead someone to suspect that this house is unoccupied.
* Ask a neighbor to come in and check out your home now and then. Doors and windows being opened are indications that the house is not empty.
* If you rent the apartment or house you might notify the owner that the house will be empty. The owner may want to check on the home regularly.
* If you have installed an alarm system see to it that the home sitter recognizes exactly how to use it.
* See that you leave your contact details with the house sitter. Whoever is keeping tabs on the home must know who they should contact if any issue should come up.
