* Find out if a neighbor will agree to drop in and check on your apartment or home often. Windows and curtains being opened convey that somebody is home.
* If you stay in a rented apartment tell the owner that the apartment will be empty. The houseowner may want to watch over the house.
* If you have installed an alarm of protection system ensure that the home sitter knows how to make it run.
* Make sure the neighbor can reach you easily. The person keeping an eye on the house should know exactly who to call should any problems come up.
